CSMS # 57322357 - CBP Extends Test Period for the Global Business Identifier (GBI) Evaluative Proof of Concept (EPoC) U.S. Customs and Border Protection sent this bulletin at 08/14/2023 09:45 AM EDT Cargo Systems Messaging Service CSMS # 57322357 - CBP Extends Test Period for the Global Business Identifier (GBI) Evaluative Proof of Concept (EPoC) U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announces the extension of the Global Business Identifier (GBI) Evaluative Proof of Concept (EPoC) test within the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). The GBI initiative, a collaborative effort between CBP and partner government agencies (PGA), seeks to enhance trade facilitation and trade security by testing and developing a unified business identifier solution to achieve better visibility into global supply chains. On July 21, 2023, CBP published the amened Federal Register Notice (FRN) extending the test period for the GBI EPoC through February 14, 2024, to allow for increased participation. As part of the EPoC test, CBP will evaluate three entity identifiers, Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS), Global Location Number (GLN), and Legal Entity Identifier (LEI), that capture additional information about trade entities and supply chain locations associated with U.S. imports. To eliminate barriers for potential volunteers, CBP will allow participants to transmit one or more of the three entity identifiers at Cargo Release via the CBP Automated Broker Interface (ABI) application. Companies interested in participating in the EPoC test can provide data for one or more entity identifiers through ACE. Participation in the test is voluntary, and a select number of trade user volunteers will be chosen to test the single identifier solution. By participating, members of the trade community will have the opportunity to evaluate and provide feedback on the GBI EPoC design and scope and test the optimal combination of entity identifiers.
